It looks like the threads are destroyed.... are you sure the top part isn't actually part of the shifter shaft?

You might have to cut the lower piece off.

Did u try unscrewing from the collar coz it looks like everything is mangled but tue collar. The flat surfacr on the collar is where u put a wrench on :\

It appears the shift **** when it broke off exposed the top part of the shifter shaft but I could be wrong...

You could try a pipe wrench on the collar...

Yes, the original **** unscrews, then you tighten that lower nut up to it to lock it in position.

Take some vice grips to whats left of the shifter ***** inner sleeve, see if you can get it to loosen. You might want to turn the lock nut away from it just a tad.

Lefty loosey... righty tighty.

Ya twisted it as hard as I could with a set of channel locks and it would not move at all. Veeeery frustrating

Pull the boot off, you'll see a silver "cup".. you press this down and turn to unlock the shifter from it's rest. Keep it in neutral doing this.

Get another shifter and reinstall. I'm not sure if a Peugot shifter is identical to the AX-15's.. which is what you have in your 96.
