Default How do the hubs engage???

Anyone got a write up or a link to a page that explains how the hubs engage on the front axle of a 96 cherokee?

I have always had locking hubs on all my vehicles. I'm just trying to understand how it works.

so the hubs all the way to the transfer are locked? The only thing that disengages power to the wheels is the Xfer?

Front driveshaft does not turn unless hubs are locked by the 4 X 4 lever inside. They are engaged by vaccum actuator which is located on the right front axle tube.

I think.
