The shop says I need new steering knuckles. How can I tell if they're just trying to grow the economy at my personal expense?
I have a 96 XJ with newly installed Rusty's 3" lift & Bilstein 5150s. I'm pretty sure they're correct about needing new upper & lower ball joints. All the bushings under there need to be changed. I'm just not so sure about the steering knuckle.

The only part of the knuckle that ever see's any wear is the slides for the brake pads.
Tell them you want a written explaination as to what EXACTLY is wrong with the knuckles....then scan and post it here.

Thanks. Is there anything I can check myself to verify? Certain parts worn down, etc. I might take it to another shop to get a second opinion, but doing so takes up a lot of time I seem to be lacking these days.

Unless they are talking about the inner C's being bent but the actual knuckles unless cracked should never have to be replaced. like Frank stated ask for a written explanation
