Thats my shifter for my 1999 cherokee classic. i don't think it should just fall off like that.

maybe not so hard,im not sure how they work really it might be easy,but i was jk about the glue though

When you push the button, there is a piece with an angle that slides over and pushes down on the piece inside the shifters shaft. Same thing happened to my 87. Just ditched the handle and pushed down on the plastic piece in the shaft to shift. I think there is some sort of pin or lock ring you remove to pull the handle off.

just push it back on. i know to take mine off you can just pull up on it and it will come off. should go on by pushing it in

Get a red button make it like a joystick to a toy grabber, or a missile launching button or something of equal aesthetic value

you might have a broken piece of plastic in the hole in the shifter handle.
it helps hold it on the shifter.

yes, they do just pull on and push off. no clips or anything.
and don't use glue, you'll never get it to work properly and just make a mess of things.

go dig one up at a junk yard. you can even use one from a zj.
