Default How big of an Air Compressor

I am looking to get air tools for the garage. Don't need to get a MONSTER compacity compressor. Just something to handle maintenence jobs (valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, rotating tires, etc.) What size do you suggest? Any chain store (Lowes or Home Depot) carried items suggested?

6-gal or 8-gal 150psi enough?

Only if you use it rarely. I have a 27 gal 5.5 hp that works very nicely for any air tool. I got mine at the farm store for $ 170 8 years ago and have been very pleased.I wouldnt reccomend much smaller if your goig to use it regularly. I use mine for everything , very handy. Farm store for air tools also. I have 9 airtools from there that I bought when I bouht the compressor and have been happy. I dont think I paid more than $20 for any of my tools. Very good quality. They should have a tag that says what kind of tools they will run . I would get 1 capable of running a cutoff tool since they use more air than most tools. I hope this helps. Also oil tools regularly and drain the comp at least once a month to make them last.

6 gal or 8 gal will NOT be enough at all. thosr are good for contractors for nail guns and tools like that. if you put a impact gun on a 10 gal compressor you won't even get off 1 lugnut you will run out of air real fast.you need to start looking at 40 and up. even my old 40 gal ran out of air after 1 tire the smaller tank compressors do not handle enough CFM's i bought this one from lowes not to long ago http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...275&lpage=none for $438 I think it will fine for what you need Impact gun, air ratchet, air chisel, cut off tool, rt angle gasket cleaner. nothing worse than a useless air compressor in your garage.

I dissagree. Mine is a 27 gal and I use impact, blow gun, chissel, grease gun, drill, cutoff tool, You name it I use it . I have had mine for 8 years and never a problem. I even changed motors and all 4 tires at same time . I guess I bought a good one. I never evn changed the oil in it. Not bad for $170 . Maybe I should have bought a $438 one.lol
