Default How bad is the 2001 Dana 35?

I have read up a little, but there is not alot of info for 2001 XJ's with the D35. its non abs, no lsd, and 3.55 gears. I do not offroad with it, but I do alot of 500+ mile drives at a time. I do beat on the jeep pretty good, but nothing crazy. No burnouts, just a few 0-60s every now and again

How long should I expect the axle to last? It also had new axle shafts when I bought it 4k miles ago.

depends on the shafts that were just put in it.

if it has aftermarket upgraded shafts and not OE replacement. id just keep it.

I assume it is just an oem. There is a big "R" stamped onto all of the wheel studs.
I keep hearing that the 35 is garbage and so It is getting me worried, so would it be a good idea to look into a 8.25 or, just not worry?
I just do not want to get stranded on I-80 ever.

sounds like you're just beating on your engine and transmission. axle should be totally fine. be more concerned with cracking that 00-01 head haha

Well, this is fantastic news... I guess I just got scared from all the negative posts on the D35, but if it will last then I will be happier than a retard in a room full of bouncy *****.

That said, how good are they for towing small things like a lawnmower or 4wheeler?

01 non ABS, should be Chrysler 8.25, not D35 FWIW.

once again. it's not the axle you should really be worried about.
to break that axle you'll have to throw 33's or bigger on it and hammer down on some rocks.
and even that doesnt do it sometimes. my buddies kept the d35 and 33's on this TJ for over a year now plenty of people have no problems with d35

If it's stock it's as bad as any other d-35,( except the d-35c). If you aren't hard on it it will last as long as the rest of the rig does.
http://www.jeeptech.com/ this site has a bit of info on your axle along with the rest of the xj.

I think the reason it has a 35 is because of...
NAS 50 State Emissions
NBVP Low Emission Vehicle (LEV)
