How to approach airbag light on a 97+??
After much searching, i'm stumped.
My airbag light is on just about all of the time. Occasionally it'll turn off, then turn back on though.
The Airbag Monitoring Computer has already been relocated and is not under the seat.
My cruise control and radio work fine - i guess this rules out the clock spring.
My gauge cluster has been having trouble cutting out - specifically with the tach and speedo. Those 2 would always cut out, but sometimes leave the other gauges working. After cleaning every engine ground and cleaning/squishing the cluster connectors back together, the cluster seems to be fixed now. It hasn't cut out in like 30 mi so far, yet the airbag light still is lit.
Any ideas on where to look next? Perhaps some kinda sensor that i don't know of? Maybe a bad airbag computer?

Airbag circuits and controllers are complex and may not be field fixable without a true diagnostic.
Go get it diagnosed by a professional. You keep messing with it, you might set it off or tear up something expensive.

Could be the occupant restraint controller, clock spring, drivers air bag, passenger air bag. Have it diagnosed by a professional if you don't have a way to pull codes or have an air bag load tool.

Both my radio and cruise control work, so i thought that ruled out the clock spring as a potential problem. This a reasonable assumption??
Last i scanned it, there were no codes to be found.

If the light is on there will be a code in the airbag module. A standard obd code reader will not read airbag codes.
If the cruise and radio didn't work, that would be an indicator that there was a problem with the clock spring. Them working doesn't mean anything. There could still be a problem with the drivers airbag squib circuit within the clock spring.

That is one of those things not to screw around with, be safe and have it repaired properly by someone who is familiar with them and certify the work.
My wife sits there in my XJ and I want it along with the other restraints in good shape and working properly.

You may get away with a warranty claim. Call the dealer and ask.
There's a chance the ground for the ABCM is loose, the ABCM connector is loose, or the ABCM has failed.

ABCM was relocated in the late 90's or early 2000's.
All recalls have been done - i called the dealership...
Now that i know a bit more, i think the extent of what i can do after disconnecting the battery is either a new clock or JY ABCM. I guess it's time to seek professional help...
