How to add/upgrade factory options

Hello. I have a 99 XJ SE... it has the basics. I'd like to add in some factory options like courtesy lights, headliner with speakers, lighted sun visors and maybe a overhead console if I come across one.

My question is this.. are the wiring harnesses already equipped with the plugs for these options, or did they have separate wiring harnesses per option package? Meaning, are the plus/mounts there for me to just buy and fit the parts in?

Thanks.

You may already have courtesy lights. Look a little harder, they may be burned out.

Those are the lights by your feet when you open the door. The door jam switches are screwed up on my rig, so I have to change them out first. All I have operational is the dome light.

I'll take another look, but I didn't see any the first time. Keep in mind I'm new to this vehicle so I may have just looked in the wrong spot.

I have a replacement dash panel with the full gauge display all ready to go in...it's a HUGE upgrade from the fuel/speedometer idiot light version I have in it now.

What else did the sport/classic come with that I can add in for the interior?

You could probably tap the 12v receptacle wiring for the makeup mirrors.

I've added factory cruise control and fog lights to mine. Very simple with parts from the junk yard.

In my 99 sport my lights come on when the doors are opened above in the center on the headliner and rear cargo area. I replaced my cargo lights with LED's a great addition for night use inside and on the ground around the hatch area. This was an area where my 8" Hella rear backup/work lights didn't help much when hatch was open.

Yes, you should have the harnesses, maybe not for compass and temperature, but all the lights should be there.
In driver footwell look above the hood release. There should be a empty plug (2 wire,2 terminal plug) tucked or hanging. This is the part of the interior lights operated by the door plunger. If you find a 4 wire/2 terminal plug in the same area, this is for the dash speakers/tweeters.

Under hood, on passenger side near windshield is another empty harness for underhood light.
You likely have speakers in the rear hatch if not on ceiling. But unsure if both areas are wired or if you have to pull the speaker wires from hatch and run into speaker bar. 1996 and earlier have modular speaker bar that 'should' work on your 97.

Thanks for the reply. That was what I was hoping for. As long as the harness is already built for the options, they are easy to install and don't require any cutting.
