Hot Feet, Hot air at feet vents???
Hey XJer's, I have a 99' and all the vents Actuate properly "Most of the time" but when I turn on the "Floor Vents" it blows hotter air all the time, Even when the temp dial is in the Cold position, turn it to the Hot position and it gets even HOTTER. Qustion: Where is the "Air Intake" coming from? I looked in the Haynes Manual and nothing there. I live out west and my feet are Always getting hot when I drive. Any ideas, or "Schematics", "Diagrams" of the air flow? Does it pickup air from the cowl? Hopefully not engine compartment. I know if it's on Recirculate it picks up air from the interior. I do have a header which might radiate some heat, but do not think that's it. Thanks! Hot Feet out West...

It pulls air from the cowl area that is between the windshield and hood. It is sealed off from the engine compartment.
On a hot day you will get outside air that will probably be heated a bit more than outside temperatures. Turning the **** opposite of hot doesn't mean it will cool the air. The air conditioning has to be on for that.

Thanks, but it is hotter than the ambiant air outside. Maybe at speed it picks up heat off the hood? I usually where shoes and my feet get very warm, but I wore sandles yesterday and felt like my foot was burning HOT. I turned off the fan and it was a little better.

The fire wall does heat up the heater box and the cowl on XJ's . on days when it just a little cold I don't need to run the heater . If you don't want the heat you need to insulate the fire wall .In the engine compartment on the drivers side is the exhaust that puts out alot of heat .
