Hose came undone, not sure which one it could be?
Hi all,
My hose came undone on my Jeep Cherokee briarwood. This hose hangs under the truck toward the front. Could it be the differential hose? It runs toward the front of the truck to the center. Sorry for being vague.
I referred to my owner's manual and my Haynes Repair Manual and could not find a diagram/description showing what it could be
I plugged it back in and it came undone again. If you happen to know what it is, could I drive it without being connected for a few days until I have more time to fix it?
Thanks

norbyson,
Is there any type of fluid leaking from the hose when it is off? That would give you and all of us an indication of how vital it is to have that hose hooked up before you drive it or not. If no fluid is coming out of it chances are it is just your breather hose coming up from the front differential. If that is the case you can drive it all you want with the hose off just get it put back on securely before fjording any water crossings. Or you'll fill your diff. with water....and that is very much bad.

BTW that is a sweet looking XJ you have there. I'd love to get my paws on an 87-88 XJ Woody Waggoneer that is in as good of shape as yours is.

Thanks, but the paint is starting to wear on it. It's starting to oxidize. When I first bought, it was like new. I am tempted to repaint it but am going to leave it for now.

The second question to be asked, besides is their fluid leaking from it is; if you don't know what it goes to, what did you hook back up to? Description of what you plugged it into might help since there are no pics.
for all we know it could be a condenser drain hose, and doesn't need to be hooked up to anything

What I need is a diagram of the underside of the truck that shows what the hoses are and where they connect. Neither my owner's manual or the Haynes manual has a diagram of this surprisingly. If you happen to have a link to one I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Breather hose.
Why does the front differential have a breather hose and the rear differential does not? Here is a pic for the thread.

good question. except my front & rear has a breather hose.
And there is a guy on here (i want to say the all powerful all seeing dukie) that even extended his rear breather to behind the tail light, pretty smart, so he can do water crossings.
so far all i did was extend my front to under the hood next to my washer reservoir and put a "cap" ( i forgot exact word it is called) on it so air can travel in & out but water cant get in

I have the DANA 30 front, which is vented. The rear axle is the Chrysler 8.25 which is not vented. I'm guessing that if I plugged the breather hole on the DANA 30 bad things would happen???

Simple, your rear hose is missing. My 91 XJ came stock with a ChryCo 8.25 in the rear and it had a breather hose. I later installed a D44 rear axle out of an 87 XJ and it had the nipple on the axle for a breather hose, too.
