Default hood won't open

The hood release inside the jeep is not working. Any easy way to get the hood to pop open?

You can access the hood latch through the headlight bucket.

"By removing the headlights and headlight mounting brackets, you can access the mounting bolts for the hood catches. One of the bolts was to the top right of the hole on the vertical panel and the other was above and to the right of the hole on the horizontal panel. Using a combination of sockets, extensions, and knuckles, the bolts can be removed. Once the catches are unmounted, the hood will open. (You can then manually release the catches and reinstall them)."

I got this Cherokee from my son. He helped get the hood up. The clip that keeps the cable from sliding into the latch is missing & then the cable goes inside the latch when you pull the release. There is just enough room to your fingers through the grill to pull on the cable & pop the hood open. Thanks for your help. I'm sure I'll have more problems.

Must be like my 86 Pioneer. There was a round collar piece on the end of the cable that has like a double head that slides into a slot on the latch's metal base; mine had slid up out of the slot and moved toward the latch lever so it couldn't be pulled far enough to release. The grill is easy to remove (8 screws) and you should be able to look up underneath or move fiber filler and look from the top to see what has happened. If it is like mine, just pull the collar back and slide it into the slot and you should be in business again.
