It still works , but it is very hard to get it to pop the hood up. The whole jeep rolls back, when I go to open my hood. Is there any way I could adjust the cable, or grease it because im afraid it gonna break off one of these days.
thanks
thanks
Haha, same-ish isse. Mine is a PITA for the passenger side latch, the driver side one pops ok, but to get the passenger side is a different story. I've tried greasing it, but I think it's just a design flaw with the leverage. Not to say that there isnt some rust build up that's limiting it. Maybe hit the JY and try popping a few hoods on other XJ's and see what ya get? Idk..

Items like that you shouldnt grease. I would buy a can of pb blaster. It is sylicone based. Grease does nothing but trap dirt and what not to get in there and make the problem worse. Try removing the latches and soaking them in some kind of cleaner then finish up with whatever lubricant you want. Same problem happens with door latches a lot.

I love that quote "whats that noise?, idk its a jeep, it makes noise" all my friends always ask what all the noises in my jeep are. I have to keep explaining that when u lift something, it makes noises!! Sucks being the only person i know that works on thier own vehicle. lol

A guilty pleasure, sometimes I can't contain myself.....That aerosol chain & cable lube, it shoots a mile. I can grease my Jeep from across the street. Even down through the window crack, (when its down), you can goo things up. The foam sticks, then as the bubbles burst the lube soaks in. Agreed ^ it gets full of crap, but in places, it ends up better than dry. With what 16-18 places to hit, might as well make it fun! Long time on a long dirt road and everything's working, cracking and crumbling, but working.
Granted, a single drop of 90W might do, but doesn't have the same look.
A locksmith once told me graphite can actually be abrasive in a lock, and to use silicone....My hood-latch is hard as well btw.
