what do you all think of a homemade recovery strap? I have a 1000 foot spool of type 3 parachute cord/550 cord laying around the garage (it is only $30 a spool btw).
If made like a standard rope is it would be one unit that is x strands thick (in multiples of 3- 3,6,9,12,ect ect). At 550 breaking pounds per strand(peak 700 pounds) and 30% stretch i think it could be a great (free) recovery strap. I have used an 8 strand wrap with 2 loops at each end to pull out a mid sized 4 door ford ranger (only option we had at the time). I figure if it was like some 18 strands thick with 2 loops at each end it would be plenty strong and with 30% stretch it would be a great recovery strap. I could even make it thicker(24-30 strands) if need be and at any length i would want it.
what do you all think of this idea?

thanks guys. I dont see a problem with it specially if it was sleeved with a rubber or plastic and like every recovery strap as long as you look over it and check for wear it should be fine.
