Those carriers are for street only. They kill your angle of approach, cause that thing will be ripped right off so you'll have to take it off quit often and that will become a pain. I was going to get one till someone said they suck off road.

x2. Anything that hurts departure angle that much would drive you insane if you wheel your rig. I'd run one on the street but it would end up on the roof as soon as I went off road.

I am getting a offroad bumper that has a reciever in it and i was going to move it up to that hole when i wheel. It should be up high enough then. If it isn't then it really won't be a big loss because it won't be much to make. It's worth a try i guess. I got a hook that goes in my reciever for recovery when i wheel anyways.

Check out these sites. I saw the Bonarue carrier on Truck U but I don't think they exist anymore, just some ideas.

The guy from the original thread here, didn't wheel. He used his XJ for camping and hunting. So for him and his particular use it was the perfect solution.

Yeah I don't do a whole lot of wheeling and mostly just for driving around some, hunting, fishing and the occasional outing for a river run. If I was to do any major wheeling I can toss the spare up top.
