hit a pot hole AND THEN...
ok. i hit a pretty big pot hole. and now from under the jeep it sounds like either grinding or a real loud buzzing noise only when i accelerate and if i really step on the gas the noise goes away (although sometimes it comes back).
i'm gonna try and take some video of it tomorrow. but it sounds pretty bad.
damn

This happened to me last year and my fan shroud broke and was being hit by the fan blades. I just broke off the piece of shroud and it was good to go. Probably not whats happening with yours tho... free bump!
never know!! i'll check it first light of day tomorrow. thanks for the idea. it kinda sounds like its from underneath though...but i know my xj can throw weird nosies around.
theres that one guys tag on here that says: "whats that noise?" "dont worry. its a jeep. it makes noise". but.. get under there and doing a good inspection. pull on stuff and make sure to really crank on that driveshaft. any play is no good. does it do this in 4? what about turning, anything funky when lock to lock? i do like the suggestion of a loose shroud, but if it goes away at speed, then idk.
still dark out here in the early a.m. but under initial inspection i have radiator fluid leak...possibly the rad jumped and was getting hit by the fan? looks like the jeep sits on the sidelines till after work when i can inspect. i JUST put in that sweet 3row. i hope its not toast. everyone always givs es me crap for having an xj as a daily driver in the city....with holes like the one i hit YOU NEED IT!!

A radiator replace isn't a bug deal, I did it after I smashed my jeep, put it back on the road in 17 hours
, but I think it was like 100 bucks from napa

be sure to check the motor mounts where they attach to the engine. Mine has sheared those bolts of not once, but twice (passenger side)

yep! fan jumped and was ripping right in to rad. but the rad lower dowels are still in their spot... i just drove it ariund the block again and its still hitting on acceleration. so before i put in a new red, how do i prevent my fan from EVER jumping and tearing into my rad?
thats what i thought. ok. so replaced drivers side mount when i did manifold. but the other one is probably toast! ok. i'll go search for a write up on how to do this.

I would bet money on a busted motor mount. The same thing happened to me 2 weeks after I bought my jeep. The bolts to the mount got sheered off in the block, my fan went through my rad and my efan broke off and went in to the belt fan.
i just replace my trans mount on sunday the same day i hit the hole. is the passenger side easy to install? my friend joe helped me with manifold. or anyone in oakland wanna drink beer and help a girl out? no, i got this. jeeps are built, not bought!!! i've already replaced radiator, fan clutch, battery cables, serp belt, blower motor, shocks all around, and 2 starters all by myself.
but seriously, is the passenger side mount hard?
