I've had cruddy-smelling exhaust for years. Finally replaced the O2 sensor yesterday and it smells almost neutral, like a brand new car's exhaust.

My maintenance required light is on so they probably need to be replaced soon. How many does a 92 4.0 have anyway?
I'll be looking at the MAP sensor and its vac line in about an hour.

All right. Well I'll probably replace that sometime in the next few weeks. I'm more worried about this darn high idle right now. It's driving me absolutely crazy.

Buy a tube of dielectric grease and start going through all your connections. Sometimes a bad O2 won't throw a code. Mine wouldn't after flashing the computer, and it would take a lot of driving to get a code 21 for it. I just replaced it yesterday and my idle did drop a bit. It may help your situation. I think you probably have a vac leak somewhere that you haven't found yet. Is there any turbocharger-like whistles when you tap the throttle on the throttle body? Perhaps you need to clean out your throttle body because it is sticking open just a hair. Idling at 1000 would throw a code if there was something wrong in the warm-up cycle.

Map vac line is fine. I unplugged the map sensor to see if it would run different, it was definitely a lot more rough, so I guess that would rule that out.
I was rummaging around in the engine bay when I noticed two cables not hooked to anything. They aren't able to be hooked together. One is really really dirty, in not actually sure if it has ever been hooked to anything. Maybe it's for an optional feature I don't have?
I also found two ground wires, the type that slide onto the flat piece of metal, not attached to anything. I didn't see anywhere to attach them.
This problem has me stumped guys.
