my 95 automatic transmission xj is acting up a little. it idles at 1300 or so and it won't shift gears til you wind it to 3000 and let off of it. the fast idle and high rpm shifting started at the same time. where should i start looking?

that makes sense. i should also mention that it turned out to be a temporary problem. last weekend it did it on a 25 mile round trip without exception. i usually just drive it on weekends. i just drove it a few miles and there isn't a hint of a problem.

 

Thank you cruiser. I just got around to replacing the TPS today. It runs better than it did when I bought it.
