High pitch whine at idle and slight acceleration

Quote: Does the smoke smell at all? Like, anything identifiable? Mine burns a tiny bit of oil at idle (leaky valve stem seals) but that tends to be blue-ish smoke, and it's pretty identifiable. White smoke... I was under the impression that white smoke was generally water or antifreeze. Hopefully not, though.

I agree, and it's generally encouraged to post as much information as possible when asking questions. I've gotten a couple of answers that I felt pointed out my inadequacy at diagnosing Jeep issues (this is me second Jeep, but most of my car knowledge comes from GM B- and G-Bodies). I just take it as we're all part of a rather large, somewhat dysfunctional family. Heheh.

Well, that's pretty good then, for a quick fix. I'd be curious to know how long it lasts. Are you still planning on swapping out the idler pulley, or just going to run it as is and see how long the WD40 fix, er, fixes it?

I've been hitting the bolts holding the leaf springs on, and the leaf spring shackles, and the nuts and bolts holding the shocks in, with PB Blaster once a week in anticipation of eventually having to replace them. That stuff is the shiznit.

D
The smoke is white doesnt smell like much and to be fair my jeep sat for 8 days not being driven when I was out of town on leave. I am pretty sure there is still alot of oil residue in the pipes from all the issues at hand and I am pretty certain im loosing most of the oil now to a leaky remain seal as these jeeps seem to have the motor sitting at a slight decline at the rear of the motor.

Generally white smoke does signal coolant, oil, headgasket or some combination/all but my oil isnt milky and my coolant is oily so for now ill see if in a weeks time of drivin the smoke doesnt go away again(maybe she is just pissy from sitting lol)

As far as the original problem, im going to wait a while to be honest. I work 12 hours a day on base which is 30 minutes away and I get called in on my off time most of the time.....with that said I have so little free time im usually sleeping and I have to prepare to move 5 hours away to my next command. So I think I might wait and see how long the wd40 fix works. I have the money to replace it just not the time lol. If it still isnt acting up in a couple weeks Ill probably just leave it and forget it till it starts acting up again.....lol

Consider the WD-40 as a diagnostic tool only. It will not hold up to the forces of a bearing designed to run in grease. Just sayin.

That's kind of what I was getting at... curious to see how long it might actually mask the problem. I wonder if, like, a silicon grease would work better.

The bearing inside the pulley is starved for grease most likely. Need to replace it.

Quote: That belt is on there real snug, seriously I had to tighten it twice the first time before I understood how it worked. I figure its probably alright for a bit But I swear to god I dont want to start just randomly replacing pulleys. I figured if it was the belt it would get worse with accel though.
Check belt tension again, try loosening it. I had a belt on too tight once and the AC compressor bearing didn't like it so it squealed until it was loosened a bit to take some tension off. Worth a shot as it's easy to adjust tension on these.

I know by fix I meant keep it from screaming like alittle girl while driving lol. It will get replaced pretty short order.

Ill give that a shot I doubt it as I have driven for 500+ miles with the belt like this, I would think it would have come sooner if the tension was too much like almost right away. but ill back it off alittle if it/when it starts squealing.

I'll sleep better tonight knowing this.
