Default High idle speed

The idle speed is high on my 1996 Cherokee Sport. I took off the intake air controller and cleaned it up as well the entire throttle body. In addition I put some STP injector cleaner in the gas tank. I had replaced the TPC unit about a year ago when the engine would not stay at idle without pressure on the accelerator. That fixed that problem. Using a scanner I get no codes. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How high (in rpms) is your idle speed? Normal is 750 give or take a bit.

High idle is often caused by a vacuum leak. Start searching for one.

Also know that cleaning the idle air control can be helpful BUT does not guarantee return to function if the problem is electrical. You might need to replace it. Do yourself a favor and get a Mopar IAC if you go this route.

Thanks for the input. Idle speed is around 800 so maybe no problem. Just seems to creep (Automatic trans) more than usual..
