So I have a 1995 jeep Cherokee with a broken trunk latch. I allocated a replacement I just now need to find the screw size to install the thing, Ive scoured the internet and have not found the size. would anyone have any leads?
That has a countersunk Torx head, but not sure of the thread. They are a bit strange, as I discovered when I had to replace them on my '99 (slightly bigger but same thing) but eventually* found some perfectly serviceable, stainless Allen head alternatives from a fastener stand at a car show.
* not that I was looking very hard, as I think there actually only one missing.
Perhaps mine being an '88 makes a lot of hardware metric instead of SAE. You could try a few different screws or bolts for fit to make sure you have the correct thread.
Unless originality is all important, phillips, torx, allen really doesn't matter but my point was , they're not hex. Mine are definitely countersunk though, I thought the '96 was too - but now you've got me wondering; If I think of it, I'll whip one out at the weekend, just out of curiosity.
Advice to OP: Test fit a couple of screws/bolts to confirm thread & check the size of the recess on the latch, because I think the diameter of the head is more important than the length then off to Lowes/HomeDepot/TSC/ wherever to see what they've got that's close.
