Hey WhiteLightning, I was and kind of am having these same issues with my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I took it to my local mechanic who is pretty familiar with my Jeep, as he has done quite a bit of work on it. I remember it was a pretty hot summer day last year and I thought that I was running low on oil or something the way the engine was reacting (especially at idle), but it seems the pressure itself was just dropping, almost to 25 from 40 and then on the highway would raise up to about 55. I was clueless and did a bit of research myself, but no avail. My mechanic said he cleaned the throttle body and made sure there were no leaks he could detect. It still drops a little bit, but it is no where near as bad as it was. Hopefully, during this summer, I don't run into the same problem. I can ask him again and if he comes up with something different, I will let ya know.

I know its not the same brand, but on my probe, it was doing similar, turned out the the TB was dirty, a quick spritz with carb cleaner and wiping it off with a soft towel fixed it.
