Recently my 99 jeep xj has been making a terrible clanking sound at startup, sometimes it won't start after the first attempt. I've noticed that it has begin to leak a lot more oil. On top of that it's been making a ticking noise. I just drove from Colorado to Idaho so there may have been an issue there. The ticking noise has been there before the trip though. I attached two videos so you can here and see what it looks like.

 

I'll make a guess.

Your oil filter adapter seals are bad, leaking oil into the starter, and the starter is on it's way out.

 

Of what I have looked up so far that is probably the case. What do you mean about the starter is on it's way out?

Fix oil leak (most likely at oil filter adapter or valve cover), put in new starter, and start running Rotella to smooth out the tick.
