Ok so here's the vitals on the XJ
98 XJ limited
183300miles
4.0l Automatic
Quarter tank of gas
Battery gauge a touch below 14
Oil pressure sitting still is around 20-30
Temp was 210

So its 98degrees out right now and I'm driving in some congested stop and go traffic. Car started fine, no airbag light...starts to idle rough while parked at a light then airbag light kicks on, put in park and rev it up a bit till light turns...start to move and it's hesitating to speed up. Next stop light does the same thing, put it in neutral and try to rev it, it revs but the tach drops to "0". Put it in drive and the tach(rpm) starts to work again and the airbag light is still on. Finally park it In a parking lot and shut it off. Restart it, put it in drive and just sit, no airbag light, no sputtering like its gonna die, rpm tach works....
I'm reading this sounds like a throttle issue but could also be because of the high heat? And ideas folks? This is my DD and I work nights and need to get to work tonight.

 

Any other gauges stop working? Might try cleaning up the cluster connectors.
The hesitation may be an unrelated issue, heat soak while stopped?

 

No, that was the only gauge w/ the exception of airbag light that came on. I drove it home and then drove to work and it did fine the whole way to here(about 15miles) This weekend Im going to clean the IAC and TPS and that whole area(throttle body, map,etc)
Im hoping by doing that it will take care of it
