Default help with spider gears asap

My stepdad blew apart the ring gears on his 95 grand cherokee. Its a v8 and the axle tag says 3.73 gears. He went and bought a new spider gear kit and for some reason the new spuder gears have one tooth less than all the oold gears. What does that mean. And the package says 3.73 gears on it.

The old big gears have 14 teeth and the new ones have 13
The old little gears have 10 teeth and the new ones have 9.

Please help asap

If you talking about the ring and pinion gears you tooth count doesn’t make any sense. If it's the spider gears in the carrier then the tooth count wouldn’t matter.

X2 What axle are we talking? If its the d30 there were 2 different carriers the break was 3.55 & down/ 3.73 & up, so the spiders might be different sizes for different carriers...

but if he blew the R&P then the spiders should be fine, unless they tried to eat a chunk of ring gear! Lol

Its a d30 in a 95 v8 zj. The r&p are fine. It was just the spider gears have a different amount of teeth compared to the old spiders

Put them in there, if there's a ton of play they obviously won't work! If they are tight they should work fine. The number of teeth won't affect how the open carrier works, as long as they mesh correctly.

Pull it back apart & look for wear. Jack up the axle & see how the spiders spin...
