help removing pitman arm nut

Default help removing pitman arm nut

how do you remove this bolt. its massive, i think its around 30-35mm. does anyone know the exact size of it so i can get a 1/2 socket thats the correct size.

great. i rented a $90 heavy duty pitman arm remover from auto zone, hopefully it works and i have a air gun that has 350 ft lbs of torque, if that doesnt get it off, time to go get the expensive 650ft lbs of torque gun

that should do it if its reallt hard to get off tap the nut on puller wth hanner

When I pulled them off the chevy trucks I always had too put a pitman arm puller and maxed out my TI2135 1/2 drive impact and put tension on it. Then I had to heat them up with a propane torch untill it popped. I know heat isn't good on steering parts but by keeping all the force on the puller I used the minimum amount of heat on them. I measured how hot it actually got and it was only around 200 degrees.

I use one of those fork things. The same thing I use for Tye-rod ends. That and a big hammer!!! 3 swings and POP every time..

1 5/16" I think it is....but big pipe wrench or big crescent will work. And yeah, try tapping around on the arm and the shaft while you put pressure with the puller.

Pickle forks arent really a good idea for popping the arm off. It puts a lot of pressure on the steering box and bearing.
