Default help plz

this might have been covered in the thread but after two hours of using search i have came up with nothing i am currently restoring my 1996 jeep cherokee sport 4 wd standard inline six. i lost compression in two adjecents cylenders before i found that i had no compression i thought it was my fuel pump so i replaced that and the regulator of course its in the gas tank but upon replacing the regulator it has one port that snaps in the sending unit and the other end looks like a hose should go on it my question dose one go there or do i leave it open im at a lose for this so please someone help

You have a blown head gasket. The fuel pump has NOTHING to do with the engine's compression.

X2 on this. OP just put the fuel pump assembly back together and start looking towards a blown headgasket/cracked head.

You have a bigger problem then a fuel problem.

the head gasket or cracked block i agree. i have gotten past that part and have bought another in line 6 with everything on it the guy basically cut the harness and pulled it and said here you go for $275 with only 160k miles on it best deal around here. i have since pulled the other old motor and rebuilt the one i just bought i got it running last night put everything back together i posted pics of it on my profile. but i do not pretend to know everything that why I'm asking about the fuel pressure regulator that is in the gas tank i understand it is vacuum regulated but on this type of regulator there is a part where a hose goes but i have searched the gas tank twice over and there are no hoses that should even go to it. am i to assume it should be left without one

Dude, i still haven't a clue what you're saying.

Why would you buy another engine for a blown headgasket? That's like a $50 gasket if that if you do the job. You don't need another engine.

Even if the head was cracked, you could of bought just a head at a junkyard for like $100-150.

Even if there is actually something wrong with your fuel pump, it has nothing to do with the compression in the engine.

How did you manage to Pull your old engine, Run out and buy another and rebuild it and reinstall the rebuilt engine in less then 24 hours.
Sorry to say but I am calling on this one especially if you can't even find the fuel regulator.

okay guys i guess i was not specific on detail about a two months ago i went for a long trip to help a friend out upon returning my jeep started acting funny sounding like it was not getting power would not even at ideal go past 25k RPM so i did some trouble shotting and came up with code for the fuel injectors throttle positioning sensor and a misfire so i replaced all the throttle body sensors to no avail did a tune up to no avail then i replace the fuel pump and regulator to no avail i the (yes i know i should have done this first) checked compression had cylinder 5 and 6 no compression so instead of doing the head gasket since the motor had 250 thousand miles on it chose to swap it for another one bought one rebuilt it and its in my truck now thats the long story of a 50 dollar job that cost me more because i did not do the simple check first and i chose to retire the old motor now I'm checking everything i did well double checking anyways with you knowledgeable guys on here

and as far as the fuel regulator if people think i cant find it 1996 a few had the regulator in the gas tank. ive googled it enough to know some have them on the fuel rail im asking dose the one in the fuel tank have a hose on the end that is open not the end that snaps into the holding braket. i understand i should have told my whole storie instead of comming with the question i wanted answered. but yes i know a head gasket would have been the easy fix but upon looking at my other motor it was ready to be replaced had some pritty bad burnt valves. but like all of you guys on here i love my jeep and will do what i have to OR think i have to. to make sure its good for more years to come
