Default Help on oil

I was wondering since in the summer your oil heats up and thins out. So having 10W 30 oil in the summer since its a thicker viscosity oil will help coat your engine but using 5W 30 in the winter helps. Or am I wrong on this. What kind of oil is best since im in kentucky and not sure about what viscosity or grade to use or brand. Also I put another 1 quart of oil in and i run her and she just eats the oil up.

I just use a 10w 30 all year round. The reason you're probably seeing a change in the oil is because of the running. It obviously doesn't all settle into the pan to check the level. I normally put six quarts in whenever I do my oil change to counter balance this as well. If you're using seven quarts then I don't know what the problem could be lol

I know its not coming out in the air filter or leaking but I know im going to put more in. She runs oil pressure 40 while running around and at idle drops to between 0 and 40. Im wanting have her run past 40 maybe 60. Also is it good to put like additives to your oil or transmission like lucas transmission seal to help the slipping.

If your usin good oil, theres no need to add "miracle fixes" to it.
Tranny additives "might" help, as that fluid doesnt get changed as often.

10w30 is a good all around weight.

I switched from 10w30 pennsoil to Rotella T synthetic 5w40 my last oil change.
Pressure went up a bit, and NEVER drops below 35-40 even at hot idle.
It used to be about 30 with the 10w30.

"W" is the "winter" Weight. Oil has a cold flowing additive (looks solid at room temp, but flows in the cold) put into it. It will flow like a "10" weight oil in the cold, but at ~200* it will flow like a "30" weight oil.
