Unhappy HELP.. new jeep owner with some A/C issues

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 6cyl and its making a noise that i've never heard before.
Sunday was the first day that I used the A/C and it was working fine, after about an hour of use I shut it off. Then a couple hours later I was hearing a weird whooshing sound.
The A/C is turned off, the sound is not all the time, it comes and go's, there are no leaks and its not overheating, and all fans are working.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the compressor.
Any Suggestions?

Sarah

Welcome to the forum Sarah!

Until more help arrives I suggest trying to pinpoint the sound when it happens again. Does it change with the rpm? is the ac off every time it happens? Could possibly be your efan or mechanical fan shroud.

Thank you

Not really, it seems to be random
The times I hear it is if I'm on a straight away or slowed to a stop.

I think I'm going to try something for now, Ill remove the fuse for the A/C unit and see if its the true problem.

the fan maybe, but they seem to be working.
The wooshing sound is like a valve releving pressure.
