Looking for my first xj! Im 17 and I want to start learning about cars and how to fix them. Ive always wanted a 4x4 xj and dont have much to spend right off the bat. I drove this jeep and it seems ok but it has A LOT of miles. My uncle is going to replace the a/c compressor but basically what im asking is "should I buy this xj?"
Thanks y'all

It's not to bad of a price and yes the miles are a little high. But if the maintenance has been all done on a regular basis it can run a lot more miles. The one thing that would concern me would be that he had to change out the head. The problem is if he ran it for to many mile with water/coolant in the oil it could have caused damage to the bearings.
BTW, You said you want to start learning to fix cars. You will have plenty of opportunities to work on a jeep if you get it.

Fair price, looks good, wouldn't worry too much about the miles paid 3,250 for mine with 246ish on the clock and now at 443k with few issues.
As long as it was taken care of I say go for it.

You made a good decision. These XJ's are great vehicles to modify or restore. You can find parts anywhere and there are tons of used parts available online or in junkyards. The 4.0 can run 300,000 miles as long as it's taken care of, and it you want to modify you can get 4.7 stroker motors with close to 350 hp or just do it yourself. It's almost the small-block Chevy of the present. There are a lot of good folks here that will help with advice and help you modify or maintain your new Jeep. When I was in high school in the '60's, tri-5 Chevy's were the thing to have. But that's when you could get one for $50 and drive it home! Now, I see a lot of older XJ"s driven by younger kids that have been tricked out. Good Luck!!!!

I wouldn't buy it from the person selling it just because of his nasty attitude. He's going to fly into a rage because you point out that a $2000 Jeep with 260,000 miles is going to need $500 just to fix the windshield and tires not to mention an ac compressor? I wouldn't trust a person like that to be upfront about known problems with the thing

I was going to go look at this one myself but other stuff came up so the trip to Dallas got canned. If I'd have gotten there and there were no glaring issues cleverly omitted from the ad, it'd have been a done deal.
Welcome to the hobby, hope you weren't too attached to your spare time and cash! (Kidding... Sorta)
Good luck!
