Default Advice on parts please...

Ok so I’m still throwing parts at my overheating problem. I want the best possible parts to ensure that if what I replace is the problem that it gets fixed with an upgrade. Next up is the water pump, radiator, hoses, and thermostat housing. I’ve read on here that Hesco is the top choice brand. I’m wondering what everyone’s opinion is on the different brands and types. Also what is the website with the best deal to get these parts from lately? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Okay let me try to rephrase this to maybe encourage some help.. I've been looking and can't get some difinitive answers from my situation.. I have a 2000 XJ sport 4.0L highly salty tropical climate. never gets under 85* here.. I have overheating issues to the point of my paint separating from my hood. I am going to replace the following items but I do not know what is better for my sitaution.. 2 core vs 3 core, alum vs full metal vs plastic, etc..

Radiator
Waterpump
thermostat housing
thermostat
02 sensors
TPS & MAP sensors
Cat converter

I figured while I was buying some parts and have all my **** out that I would replace the sensors too.. Can anyone recommend me a brand or a specific part number that would be the best choice for me? I've already sunk money into this thing so I don't mind paying for quality parts, but I don't want to buy a 500 dollar part just for its name when a 200 dollar part works just as well. I just want this thing to not overheat!

is the jeep actually overheating? The sun baking on the hood would cause the paint to peel, I really don't think it would ever run again if the MOTOR got that hot under the hood that the paint peeled. ALOT of cars in the early 90s had that problem because they were trying to add clear coat right to the paint, it would all peel off eventuly. Even my ex's 96 grand am is doing it. You can peel the clear of in sheets off of her hood.

What kind of temps are you seeing? 210-220 is fine.

My 00 XJ is peeling like a sunburn in a couple of spots. My 92 Buick did it to. 210 is norm.

Yes the jeep is actually overheating.. Getting up to about 250ish, boiling inside the res, all the hoses are hot, mech fan works fine, there's no thermostat in at the moment.

It was overheating after driving around for a bit. So I had someone check it out and said the headgasket was cracked and the head was actually warped. So it was re-machined and a whole new gasket kit was put on, full flush, cleaned the radiator, all new fluids.

Still overheated, so far I've replaced the rad cap with a new one, didnt work. tried a 20 lb thinking maybe if it kept the coolant in the radiator longer it would cool off, didnt work. Left the 20 lb on and replaced the fan clutch because it wasn't spinning as fast as it should have, didnt work. Took the thermostat out thinking that it might have been getting stuck because it would sit around 240 then all of a sudden spike to red, then after a bit drop back down, didn't work.

So I said f it I'm just going to replace everything, hence the shopping list. But it's always super hot here, I just want to make sure since I'm already having to spend the money I might as well get better than stock parts. The best cooling equipment I can get for a resonable price. I'm just hoping since there are so many people on here, someone's already done their research on the best deals and could help me out.

I would start with a 3 core all metal radiator, 195 degree T-stat and a new water pump, also make sure the belt is routed the right way or the pump will spin in the wrong direction...Tj
One other thing is make sure your bottom hose is not collapsing and the system is burped.

now I was reading abotu how the 2 cores are better sometimes because the 3 cores tend to get clogged easier.. along with some other reasons.. Any truth to all this? Is 3 core still the way to go? Any brands you recommend?

I just bought but havent yet recieved A csf all metal 2 row. If it gets here soon I'll let you know how A 2 row works out, other than that. My 2cents is make sure the belts routed correctly and make sure there r no air bubbles inthe system. A mech was telling me that the 6l's would trap air in the head an this would cause cooling problems. He was sayin you had to jack the whole vehicle up on the front end to burp the system, But I dont know for sure since I'm still waiting on my parts to arrive. GOOD LUCK! let us know how it goes an I'll do the same.

Hey, I'm from Merritt Island Florida... Born and raised for 23 years. Got a job offer, sold everything but my surfboard and clothes, canceled the lease, and ditched the gf to move to Antigua. I bought the xj sight unseen in FL from Antigua via craigslist. I had a mechanic go over the whole thing before I shipped it here, but it wasn't overheating when he had it for some reason. I just have **** luck with cars in general.

I think that's exactly it... The paint they used on the hood its a one shot type deal with the clear coat in it already. That's interesting to know though. I might get a hood scoop for some extra forced air into the engine bay, so I was thinking of repainting the hood, grill, and fenders, so I'll have to remember to avoid that paint.
