Help a jeeper out! U joint???
When my '90 XJ sport - 4.0l - 5 speed is in 4wd it "clacks" when doing tight turns and some wide turns....when in 2wd it has a constant but quieter "clack" sound....IDEAS PLEASE!

check the driveshaft ujoints, and maybe axleshaft ujoints.
also, if your making tight turns when in 4wd you're going to hear a lot of noise b/c thats the chain in the tcase binding, 4wd isn't meant for sharp turns. but i'd start by checking the ujoints, usually they'll make noise when they're on their way out.

Yeah check the axle u-joints for play and wear. I just had one replaced for 30 bucks at a local shop. I removed the hub and axle shaft assembly and brought it in with a new u-joint. If you hear popping or cracking with the wheels turned its always the damn u-joint.

How do I detect which u-joint is bad? There are so many of them up there! I hear this noise when turning left and accelerating.
