HELP! Horn wont turn off!
Today i was in my garage working on my lawn mower and i had the jeep sitting outside of the garage in the middle of my driveway when all of a sudden the horn went off and scared the crap out of me. It horn blew for about a minute and then shut off. I crawled underneath to see what was going on and it went off again and scared the crap out of me again. But this time it did not shut off untill i removed the positive terminal. I reconnected the terminal wire and nothing... Then about ten minutes it goes off again for about ten seconds then stops. Also if the horn is blowing and i turn the key to auxillary the horn turns off. What could be causing this? I was thinking a short in the steering wheel...

Could be a bad relay, or the air bag cover expanding and contracting with the weather causing the horn switch to make contact. Sounds crazy, but I've seen it quite a few times.

First time ours did it was about a year after we bought it (new). The dealership told us it was corrosion on the wiring, it was normal wear and tear and was not covered under warranty. After some discussion (about how rusted my old 1982 K5 was and how the horns still worked fine on it they agreed to pay for it (except for the deductible). The horns had burnt up and they had to be replaced.
The second time it happened the dealer ship told us the horn relay had gone bad and after some discussion (up to about 24,000 miles by this time and not quite 3 years old) they again replaced the part under warranty.
The third time it happened (over 30,000 miles now and over 3 years old so no longer under warranty) I removed the rusty metal Jeep horns located in the front bumper (what a great place to put horns so as to catch water, dirt, etc......), used a volt meter to determine I had 12 volts there but the horns wouldn't work, I went to Advance Auto and bought a cheap set of plastic horns for a total of about $25 and installed them.
70,000 miles and 7 years later and the cheap plastic horns are still working great.
Moral of the story....could be several but for here it is there could be several issues that could cause this problem. Good luck with it.

The self serve boneyard in my area has vehicles with the airbags still in them, you might want to take a look at your local recycler and see if they have an airbag for your ride.
