Default HELP!!!! fender trim, lift questions.

Ok guys i am new to this forum. So with introductions i am a 18 year old college student with not a lot of money. i have a 6 inch collaborated lift. Rear lift is 4 inch leaf spring with 2 inch blocks, and sky jacker nitro 8000 6" to 8" shocks. Up front all i did was 4 inch coil springs and two inch spacers with the same shocks as rear. I also have 6 to 8 inch quick disconnects. Problem is i did nothing to the upper or lower control arms. nothing to steering linkage or track bar. My axle is sitting a couple inches toward the driver side because i still have stock track bar. I do have a transfer case drop kit but that is pulling my engine mounts to tight and i have a severe rattle when sitting still in drive.

I am debating on letting my jeep(my baby) sit for the next several months till i get the money for the proper linkage or lower it down back to a 4 inch lift. What i need to know is the best way to trim the fender so i can clear 31's or 33's if i do lower it. Whole problem is if i let it sit i have to ride my motorcycle for the next few months which is bad because it is winter and it is 30 degrees outside.

I could really do with some advice on the cheapest way to fix my problem.
I can provide pics if needed.

Welcome to CF from delaware. so im kinda confused. do you want to know about your lift or how to trim fenders. im thinking with a 6" lift you will not need to trim fenders for the 31" tiresyou want. i think thats plenty of lift to clear 33"s without trimming.

but to trim your front fenders:
Remove your bumper. remove your fender flares. choose a sutable spot to cut, usually the bottom the the bezel. mark your cut line with a straight edge and marker or welding chalk. use an angle grinder ir tin snips to cut. replace fender flares and mark the cut. cut fender flares to match. (build new bumper) reattach bumper.

i havent done the rear so i cant tell you that one.

At that height, long arms are recommended. If you cannot afford that, try these:

http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_..._arm_drop.html

I am running them at 4.5" and freakin LOVE it. It would help tremendously on your lift. It would bring your controls arms back down to the 3" lift height and you wouldn't need to replace your control arms but some would recommend you replace the lowers with some after market arms. Rough Country sells good lower adjustable arms for about $150.

It would be very wise to get a trackbar at that height. RC has one for $100 and there are many many trackbars out there that would fix your axle placement problem.

You will be fine at 3"+ with 31" tires. They will fit if you bumpstop it correctly. 33's require some lift, maybe at the height you are now will fit em but anything lower will require trimming. I can't say how much or how since i never trimmed.

My problem is i have to lower it back down to a 4 inch lift because i dont have the money for the lower control arms, track bar, drop pitman, and definitely not a long arm kit. i want to clear 33's so i wasn't sure the best way to trim my fenders. I believe i am going to take it back down to a 4 inch for now, trim the fenders and stay like that. It is just cheaper that way and i dont have the money to finish the lift off. Maybe in a few years i can get the 8 inch long travel kit i want.

Thanks for all the help and i would love some more advice.

If you lower it to 4" you should be able to clear the 31's just fine and with some trimming you could probably squeeze the 33's in there.

you could fit 33s with 4" but you would have to trim probably an inch off your fenders or more.
