I was cruisin home from wheelin and my driveline fell off and broke my tailshaft housing on my tcase. i have a 231 but i got another housing from a 242 will it work?

Different , you need to find a 231 cone

so is that all i need is the cone..sorry im kinda confused http://i8.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/df/27/bb6b_1.JPG i only broke a little piece off the cone not the whole housing

You need to replace the piece that is broken with the same piece from the same TC.

just bolted that housing on
