help! 90 renix
So the jeep was sitting for around 4 months, before that, she was running great, I had replaced the TPS, and did a full tune-up, prior to parking her. today I went and bought a battery for it, now it won't even crank, I banged on the starter, still nothing, it got dark so ill get back to it in the morning. Any suggestions on where to start?

Howdy..course you want all four surfaces on the battery connections clean shiny every now and then. Does it even click when you turn the key?
If you hold the key over, and jiggle the shifter in park or neutral and it starts, it's your NSS. http://bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neut...ty-switch-nss/

Acessories come on? If they do, is there a noticeable difference when turning the key to start? i.e. Sound, gauges peg out, fuel pump louder?

When I turn the key all the accessories come on, when I turn all the eU to crank the coolant gauge pegs all the way to the right, it also seems my interior lights and gauges are brighter.

Bummer. Do you have a meter? And yea, what DeepJeep said, Terminals are clean, headlights are bright...Btw, you might try giggling harder/more! Its common that thing gets gummy and the contacts.....Sometimes pushing the shifter a little out of range does it.

Well, make sure you have your power squared away. A charged battery rests, (nothing on), around 12.7. If I have it straight the starter relay needs to be grounded by the NSS to shoot power out to the small wire on the starter, (that's the solenoid), to start it.
You can jump power to that terminal to start it, good way to get run over!

Just something I noticed happens.
OP If you have oil on your starter you may need to take it off and clean it thoroughly. Banging on em doesn't always work. Sounds like your ignition switch is working when you turn the key. NSS issues would cause nothing to happen when you turn the key.

Have a helper hit the key while you check for +12VDC at the small wire on the starter motor solenoid.
The start relays can go out on RENIX (I had one summer where my 88 decided to go through five of them in two months before I gave up and put in a DIN relay - haven't had a failure since...) and that can cause a "No CRANK" condition.
The NSS is only a big issue with the AW4 automatic (four-speed slushbox behind the 6-242, 1987-up,) but it's a universal problem. If you have a manual, the switch is probably atop the clutch pedal, and is only closed when you're pushing the clutch (in the two manuals I've had, this was the second thing I corrected. The first was yanking out the chime/buzzer module - I don't need it, and I don't need to be reminded that seat belts are required because the State is losing money.)
One of these days, I've got to figure out how I wired in the DIN relay to bypass the starter solenoid - I did it years ago, and off-the-cuff (no wiring diagrams or anything.) Besides, I've also bypassed the ignition switch in the column - you can crank the key all day and nothing will happen (much to my amusement when someone tried to swipe my 88 a few years back. Yanked his scrawny self out through the open window and airmailed him into the fence at the end of the parking row. Oops! I forgot there was a short cinder block wall behind that wooden fence...)
