HELP! 89 cherokee

my buddy and I used a amp meter yesterday alt is putting out 12.something and the battry is still reading 12.something checked most of the wires in the engine bay they all have current and we checked all the fuses they have a little bit of corrsion on them so im going to replace all the fuses i also replaced the starter relay but my buddy wants to put in a GM one alternator because it has something to do with running a wire directly to the battery. so were you saying to run a ground wire to the fender then to the neg- post on the battry because all i have is a neg- wire runnging from the battery to the side of the engine block

WHOO HOO I FIXED IT I FIXED IT Ugly jeep lives after all this blood, sweat, and tears it was a FUSE! i decided to go thru and replace all the fuses even thou they all looked fine so now i have to figure out which one i replaced that fixed it so i can have plenty on hand in the jeep
