Question Help with 6.5" Rear Shock Length for XJ

Hi Gents,

I am going to be installing a 6.5" RC LA kit on my XJ and I have sold the shocks that came with the kit.

I wanted to upgrade.
With the help of others on here I have figured out what front shock lengths I need, now I just have to figure out the rear length.
People have told me to install the lift, then flex and measure.
That is all fine but I just feel like I would be more comfortable if I had the new shocks to install at the same time as the new lift.

So does ANYONE on here have a 6.5" lift kit and can you please tell me what shock length you use in the rear?
Compressed length and the extended lengths if you can oblige..

here is the kicker.
you have to have the shock mounts welded higher up the axle tube. ( I have the Zone offroad weld on mounts )
I also am going to be running bar pin eliminators. (if that matters)

Any help on this is appreciated as always and will be a huge help.

Brian

probably a 23- 23 1/2(fully extended) shock will work fine with your raised mounts and bpe's

for the compression side of it you may want to flex out and measure

i have 23" shocks on my 5" lift and they dont really come close to fully collapsing.

another thing, you could try and find out the lengths of the shocks that originally came with the 6.5 kit you have.

cool thats what everyone says. (can I measure that now before I install the kit? seing how when your stuffed your stuffer ya know?)

also can't go by the shocks that came with the kit if I mount them up on the axle and also have the BPE's
so i am not sure on that.

How do you specify the valving when you order a shock? Is that in the specs?

yeah at eshocks dot com is where I am going to get mine from.
The shocks I want are 5150's they have eye ends on both ends.
you can see a big list of shocks, they either have one valve option or the other.
you choose right then when you click quantity.

If you have the stud type in the front still you may need to look at other shocks not sure.

you can still use 5150s with regular studs. bilstein makes studs for the them or you could use hoop adapters

Wow, I am learning a lot from this one thread. What is a hoop adapter? I've always thought the pin-up style shock was weak. Both mine are bent from full suspension droop. Does anyone have a picture?
