Default hella 5 light problem (lights cut off after 5 mins on first start up ever)

so i just finished wiring my hells 500's together, i fired them up they worked fine until i got to the local grocery parking lot, then they cut off and would not turn on again. I think it may be a ground i checked the wiring twice before i started the lights. On the the plastic box wiring harness acceptor where all the wires connect into i driled in to the firewall and put one of the grounds right behind it, without sanding it to bare metal and i put it under a piece of plastic, so it looks like this

Screw / plastic wiring harness acceptor / ground wire/ painted metal/

My big questions is if onw of the ground is incorrectly put together will the lights cut out ??? anyone whos ever installed these please help me thanks very much!!!!!!

if the ground has lost contact it can make your lights stop working. It almost sounds like to me that your switch over heated. If this happens the inside of the switch goes to crap and stops working.

my advice,, re-ground it, ground it anywhere under the hood, but not to plastic,,, painted metal should not interfere

another thing is your fuse can be blown, check your fuse and if you dont have a fuse or relay(that would be dumb) you could have fried your lights

what gauge wire are you using?

I have 4 lights and i keep on blwing my fuse,, my guess is that im not using a big enough gauge.. i think im using 12 or 14,, im gonna go with 10
