Default Heating The Rear Leaf Spring Bolts With A Torch?

1998, XJ Classic, 4.0, AUTO

Seriously, what are the chances I'm going to blow something up? I fired up the torch, went to put the heat to the rear shackle bolt on the driver's side and noticed I'm right under the fill tube and just behind the gas tank. I'm not liking the potential outcome of this situation. How sealed is this fuel system?

Don't those bolts go all the way through the unibody frame?

And if they don't it'd probably be safer to remove the bumper and spray the inside of the frame with PB blaster.

Those bolts don't go all the way through. I think I'm going to take the bumper off and PB Blast the hell out of it for a week and try it again next weekend. Fire and gas can't be good for my health.

I used a small propane torch keeping the flame small and I was fine.

Yep, and I already broke my breaker bar. I'm going to have to use the torch I think. I just don't like it. If I've got a fuel leak back there, I'm probably going to find it!
