Default Heater Valve Bypass .. replacing valve once a month .. wt H!

Hopin someone who has bypassed this valve will chime in .. just go strait to core? and plug the vaccuum line / closed ? everything ok after? .. as in: able to control heat / cool air into cab ?

bought this jeep (93) (no AC components) .. heater valve looked ok, after driving it home .. started leaking .. since i tested heat

New valve installed (murray) .. started leaking quick

Figured the old rusty core coolant killed it

Since that I had new rad installed, core flushed / new coolant / new overflow bottle .. almost all new hoses

then another new valve installed .. was fine until today

I have tried to keep the heat ON always since the shop cooling job .. to flush heater core even more .. planned on doing another system flush at next oil change

This leak .. 1st time heater was turned off when parked (all nite) .. found a dripping heater valve (big pool on ground .. 12 hours later) .. from same area as the previous .. leaks ... the pivot arm into plastic assy .. i watched it drip out too, while engine off / cold .. turned engine on .. turned heat on / off / on .. drip stopped

annoying .. need to bypass this .. would like some info from peeps who have done this

Im guessing pressure problem .. but whatever, getting old .. those valves are crap

Default Heater valve leak.

May be over-pressurizing the cooling system. Check the radiator cap. I think it should be 13 lbs. Try a new cap.

mine broke where one of the hoses attached. just eliminated it. heat works much better as it is really a mixing valve. i still have the a/c in mine as well and have not noticed any adverse effects.

Ditch it and plug the vacuum line.

This.

Late models don't even use HCVs.

If you go to rockauto.com and look under a 2001 Cherokee 4.0, the heater hose part numbers that you want are Gates 19038 and 19039 to bypass the HCV.

Oh and just curious, the vacuum line that goes to the heater control valve is grey, correct?

I believe so, yes. And it has a black 90* elbow connection on the end of it.

.......and rockauto.com (as well as most other auto parts stores) sell bulk 5/8" and 3/4" heater hose for <$1/ft. Measure twice, cut once.

That's a late model engine that never had the HCV...
