Default Heater Hose Part Name Needed!!!

Was changing the plugs on the Jeep today and when I got to the back plugs I went to push on the upper heater hose and it broke an F looking connection. The only way I can describe this piece is, if your looking at the firewall where the heater hoses run to the heater core, following them from the firewall back, they come to a junction at a F looking connector, that has what appears to be a valve on it to open/close (guessing at this). Anyways, what is this part called so I know what to tell autozone I need. Thanks!!!

Autozone also sells heater hose by the foot. New, longer hoses can be installed direct to the heater core this eliminating the heater control valve. The factory eliminated it '97 up.

I was wondering about that. My old Chevelle used to be like that, just two hoses running from the motor to the heater core. What does the valve due besides open close from what I can tell. If I eliminated this piece, would i lose function of anything?

are the hoses running into and out of the heater control valve the same size? Meaning can I run the hoses strait into the heater core without issues?

yes you would loose the leaky heater control valve ,other than that no issues from elimination
