i have a 96 xj and the **** that controls the air flow isn't working. it is jammed in the lowest "off" position and it kind of jiggles around which leads me to believe it the linkage has broken. without this i can't get the defroster or the heat to start flowing....unfortunately i expect to have to take the dash apart to get to the **** from the other side. i just wanted to know if this has ever happened to anybody else? and how much of a PITA it was to fix it.

 

You can remove the instrument bezel and then there should be screws that hold the climate comtroller in place,you do not have to remove the dash.
