Heater Core Leak
My 97 Sport has a bad heater core leak. So bad that the windshield fogs up when its the least bit cold out. I am aware that it is a MAJOR job to replace.
Is it possible to cut the heater duct to remove the core? How about an excision through the firewall? I wish I lived in Arizona where I would never have to use my heater! Has anyone attempted what I'm suggesting?

No real way around that - even if you cut the heater box there is no real way to get the core out except from above.
Took me about 8 hours but if I did it again I would probably cut that in half. You do have to evacuate the A/C refrigerant though, which adds to the cost (but also gives you the opportunity to replace the AC Drier and evaporator core).

For those who have gone through the replacement of the heater core, how did you handle the AC evacuation and when all was put back together the AC recharge. Did you evac and recharge yourself or take the job to a shop?
