Default Heater Control Valve

Hello, all.

I own a 1998 Cherokee XJ 4.0. Can anyone tell me where the heater control valve is located? I'm having some issues with my heat. Any information is appreciated.

Thank you.

You don't have a Heater Control Valve. The last year for one was 96.

Start by explaining your symptoms and certainly there will be someone on here that can offer you some advice and assistance. There are plenty of common failure points and often tell-tale signs of which one is the root cause.

A guessing game. We like those. My guess is no heat, or very little heat, coming thru the vents. ???

Thanks! I guess that's why I can't find it.

Yes. Very little to no heat.

You wouldn't want it if you had it. I eliminated mine on my 95 and run the hoses from a 97+ and it works great.

If it's just little to no heat, but all the other stuff works (air flow selector, cool air/A/C, no puddles of coolant on the pass floor) then you probably just need to flush your heater core.
Pull the two heater hoses off at the pass side firewall (with a pan under that area) and run a garden hose through each of the sides for several minutes. Make sure to do it on each pipe (so you get a forward and backwards flush) and only use regular garden hose level of pressure.

If you're ambitious, and/or feel like there's inefficiency in the regular cooling, do a full system flush as well.
