Default heater bulbs?

Hi. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Just took posession today of a 97 Cherokee 4.0l sport. All fine till I drove at night to find the heater controls ara not illuminated. Are there bulbs to replace? If so how easy is it?
Cheers
Paul

Pretty easy, pop off the plastic trim piece around the heater controls and radio. Then 2 or 3 screws to pull the controls from the dash, pull out the bulb, take it to an auto parts store and replace it.

Just looked this morning in the light, The dash is one piece!!! Does this mean I have to remove the whole dash to get to the bulbs or is it possible to get to them by removing the after market radio?
Looks like a big job. Also Digital Clock is not working, any suggestions.
Cheers
PAUL

Anyone actually ever fix this on their 1998 XJ?
I do not see any bulbs anywhere, after pulling the faceplate.

Should be a little hole on the top right side of your climate control(the back side of it), that's where the light goes. Some people end up getting it stuck behind a bunch of crap when they take their entire dash off, that's what happened to mine when I bought it. Should be a small orange and a black wire close together, that's the ones your looking for, if you pull them and you can tell its not connected then that's the missing light bulb connector. Had to tear apart my whole dash to get to where mine was stuck

Here is what I am looking at.

Where are the bulbs? I see nothing of the sort.
Do I need to remove the white plate also?

By the way, this faceplate has almost zero play, as the wires behind it are taut.
So, I can not look behind this plate at all.

Those two hour glass looking holes are where they go, as too the wires being that tight I couldn't tell you where they are at, maybe with a pic of the wires I could help

Are you sure? There is no bulb socket behind those 2 holes, just space.

yes that is where the bulbs go.
they go in from behind. there should be a small bulb holder that is wired to fit.

you are gonna have to look behind that control panel for the bulb harness.

There is no bulb harness anywhere behind those 2 holes.
Do you think "heater **** illumination" was an optional feature??
