Yesterday I replaced the heater blower motor on my 1996 XJ and I have a problem with the condensation tube. I'm in the UK. I had to get a new motor shipped from the US so as to be compatible with my LHD vehicle. The new motor has a hole in the metal housing into which locates a rubber tube which I swopped over from the old motor. This tube runs about 5 inches and locates into a hole in the bulkhead. Unfortunately the new motor has this hole in a different place than the old one and the tube therefore cannot run into the bulkhead hole as it supposed to. Right now it just dangles in mid air.

So the questions are:

• What is this tube for? I understand it's a condensation tube; what condensation does it carry; from where to where?

• What are the consequences of leaving it like it is now?

• Can I just rig up some ad hoc tubing of some sort to direct it to the proper place? That would cause the tube to be maybe a couple of inches longer than it is now. (I don't want to get another new motor because of the delay).
• Does this tube affect both the heating and the AC, or just the AC?

Sorry for my ignorance. I have searched the forum and the web but been unable to find answers to these questions so I'd be very grateful for any help.

 

Drains condensation from that area. Won't affect operation as long as the water can drain out and not build up inside.
