Default heater

heres my question me and my others have had a problem with low to no heat, the other day i tried to burp my coolant and i noticed the the antifreeze is running straight into the top of the overflow so much so that not that much was actually making it through the heater core. so i pinched of the hose going to the top of the overflow, and the heater started working like it should. So my question is should there be a a pressure valve or something in that hose to prevent the steady flow to the bottle and make the heater work right

Did you have your radiator cap off? Usually that prevents antifreeze from entering the overflow bottle unless necessary.

What year is your truck? Renix?

It could be a blockage in the heater core. When pitching off the line to the over flow tank in my increase the pressure enough that it over comes the blockage with some flow. Water like the path of least resistance.

I have an 89 as well did away with the tank and put a radiator cap in the upper line, put in a regular over flow bottle, toss the old pressure bottle away with all the y fittings and all water will run into the heater core.

Total fix was about 50.

I'd agree with it probably being a clogged heater core. As old as it is, if its never been flushed, there could be tons of gunk in there.

My wife's 98 TJ had tons of crap in the core, and its about 10 years newer than yours.

i have flushed the core both directions several times and its seems ok nothing dirty really comes out so i figured it wasnt a heater core problem

Thats a link to the write-up on how to switch from a Renix system to a "normal" system if you've got a manual trans.
