If it isnt the tire catching something in the wheel well, my first guess would be axle shaft universal joints.

What is this? It seems everybody has axle u-joint problems lately.

I had an issue with my rear driveshaft u-joints... pretty damn new u-joint (within the last 2 years).. I go to my trusted tire shop for new tires and ask them to double check the suspension parts (I'd replaced almost everything, but new tires are expensive and I wasn't taking any chances). They report only 1 issue, rear driveshaft u-joint has play. I take a look that night and the strap on one side had loosened up. I tighten it up and still get a little vibe... double check and sure enough the joint was rough. Now I have to think that running loose for however long caused excessive wear and all that -- but again - it's another u-joint issue right at the same time as others.

Maybe the Jeep gods are bored. If anyone knows a good book we can send Cruiser...

O.P. -- Sorry for side-tracking.... I agree on u-joint as primary suspect. Other stuff might include the dust shield for the brake rotor or "rub" as was mentioned.
I would NOT think hub bearing since that would crunch/grind independent of turning the wheel if it went bad, but there's not a whole lot else going on, so if everything else proves good, it's something to check at least.
