Looking to buy an '01 Cherokee that has a sunroof. Other than the sunroof, the XJ appears to be in good shape. I'm not a big fan of sunroofs especially when they leak - a separate issue. The owner stopped the leak by taping the roof seals. The owner also junked the headliner roof or shell. Does anyone have a suggestion where I might source a new roof? I live in an area where parts yards are not plentiful. I will appreciate any thoughts that you might have.

You mean you want to replace the metal and get rid of the sunroof or you want to pick up the fiberglass shell that the headliner adheres to?

You my be better off finding a sunroof gasket and clearing the drain tubes. My sunroof leaked during heavy rains but after clearing the drain tubes it hasn't been an issue.

Thanks for the reply. I will keep your comments regarding the sunroof in mind. As for the headliner, I was looking for a source for the fiberglass shell the liner adheres to.

The only source is a junked XJ, as far as I know. Keep an eye on the Craigslist ads near you.

In the last 3 years, picking yards within a 50 mile radius, ive only ever seen one XJ with a sunroof. Good luck finding one.

I did a roof repair and headliner biscuit swap from a wrecked XJ, takes a couple of hours to pull a biscuit

also cut a section of roof out and welded it into mine, no picnic as the roof is double skinned and spot welded

you could cut out the sunroof on yours and transplant a non-sunroof section in, that is what I have seen some people do when no other solution is practical

Just talking about the headliner right?
So does it have to be from a sunroof one?
Guys cut their headliners when they put in an overhead console in their Jeep that did not come with one.
Can't you do the same for the sunroof?
