Hi all....

I'm looking at replacing my OEM headlights with the best OEM replacements... I live in an area that gets a decent amount of snow during the winter so I like the fact that the older halogen style do produce heat, keeps them from icing over in snow storms. Where as LEDs can be brighter, but produce very little heat...therefore up here in the North 40 aren't as great in the winter.

Bright is good, but not looking for ones that will burn out faster. Just overall good performance.

I highly recommend going with Hella e-code housings with H4 bulbs and a dedicated harness. Such a difference. Those parts-store sealed headlights are absolute ****.

 

Anything is better than what's in there now. They are about as bright as a candle in a wind-storm.

...and the north 40 comment...that means in the northern part of the state I'm in...lol.

 

I have used Hella HB2 Vision Plus on two vehicles.I am very satisfied with them. They are high quality with great optics with a nice cutoff. They are DOT approved. Hella part number 003427291, about $50 each. I have stayed away from the HB4 E code (European version) as there is some discussion that they push more light to the left side (oncoming traffic) instead of the right side (road signs, etc). Both are plug and play without modifications thus fit like originals. The included halogen bulbs are replaceable.

 

If that's the case, you're getting the RHD (UK) version, which would be backwards for our roads as well as continental Europe. Mine tilt up on the right side to illuminate road signs as they should.

 

They have models with a heating element in them now to fix this issue in cold climates. I believe JW Speaker sells them. Won't be cheap though, I think they're around 600 dollars for a set.

 

I upgraded the headlights on my 2000 XJ with the relay harness and Sylvania Silverstar halogen bulbs that are xenon filled. The difference is as much as I'll ever need. They are properly aimed and I still get flashed sometimes by people who think my high beams are on. The H4's with metal reflectors will eventually rust when the seal fails so I'll stay away from them.

I believe these are the ones that b16gsr upgraded too, that somebody else used first and posted in their build thread (for the life of me can't remember who), and
both of them seemed to like them. I am toying with the idea of going with these. I have a tendency to follow b16gsr's lead with my Jeep. LOL.

can you provide link to the correct harness and headlamp? I have a 1991 XJ that needs some serious light help .
